How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
-
Some links do not have accessible names, making their purpose unclear to people using screen readers.
-
Some embedded video frames do not have descriptive names.
-
Some PDF and Word documents have missing or unsuitable image descriptions.
-
Some PDFs lack document titles, language information or the structure needed by screen readers.
-
Some Welsh content has incorrect or missing language information, which may cause screen readers to pronounce it incorrectly.
Our previous statement also reported problems with text spacing and video captions. These require further testing to establish their current status.

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Non-accessible content
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Links without accessible names
Some pages contain empty links without an accessible name. Screen reader users may not be able to identify their purpose. These relate to WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.4.4, Link Purpose (In Context), and 4.1.2, Name, Role, Value.
Embedded video frames
Embedded video frames on the English and Welsh online resources pages lack descriptive accessible names. This relates to success criterion 4.1.2, Name, Role, Value.
Downloadable documents
The automated review identified:
-
Missing or unsuitable image descriptions in PDF and Word documents, relating to success criterion 1.1.1, Non-text Content. Images require individual review to distinguish meaningful content from decoration.
-
Missing PDF titles, relating to success criterion 2.4.2, Page Titled.
-
Untagged PDFs, affecting document structure and relating to success criterion 1.3.1, Info and Relationships.
-
Missing PDF language information, relating to success criterion 3.1.1, Language of Page.
These findings include recently published documents as well as older material.
Welsh language information
The review flagged Welsh text presented with English language information. Depending on whether this affects a whole page or a passage, this relates to success criterion 3.1.1, Language of Page, or 3.1.2, Language of Parts.
Findings requiring further assessment
Further manual checks are needed for flagged link colours, repeated or unclear link text, headings and list structure.
We also need to retest the text-spacing and video-caption problems recorded in the previous statement. Their current status has not been established by this automated review.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We are using the findings of our accessibility review to prioritise improvements to the website and its downloadable documents. This includes improving link descriptions, adding accessible names to embedded videos, correcting language information and addressing accessibility problems in PDF and Word documents.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was originally prepared on 26 June 2020. This revised draft was prepared on 20 October 2026.
The latest supplied automated report is dated 20 October 2026 and covers 404 URLs. Its accessibility findings reference WCAG 2.1. Additional homepage results were supplied from WAVE and Silktide.
The results have been reviewed for their relevance to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Automated testing alone cannot establish compliance. Further manual testing, including keyboard, screen reader, zoom, reflow, text spacing and applicable WCAG 2.2 requirements, remains necessary.
We will review it at least annually and update it when significant changes or new accessibility findings affect its accuracy.
